Is this feasible, and resonable?

Um...I read the whole thing, and it was informative...and I'll leave it at that.

Bright red! It's at an Arrow dealer in SLC. I need my buddy to go see it with me. He has an 06 t2000 as well, so he could make a good comparison.

What time is it? 11:34 and I have made it to page 35!

Two differences between Pharm and I.

    1. He had virtually NO over the road experience and learned how to drive his truck the weekend before his first load. I have no idea how he passed his skills test that way? My plan is to at least have 6 weeks seat time BEFORE I buy a truck.

    2. He required financing for his rig, which I do not.

    Last minute addition:

    3. He is a lot more business savvy than I am. Ahem.... But I counter that with a very good mechanical apptitude. (And a shop full of tools!)

I noticed he stopped posting 12-27-09. It's like reading a novel and I won't allow myself to jump ahead. But the suspense is killing me!!!

While you're reading that thread, you'll come to the part where the thread gets locked down for a pissing match. It took me a while to find it, but here is the companion thread (and just like a Christmas present--don't open it early):

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...vice/91108-instant-o-o-and-loadboards-ii.html

Now I'm just waiting for another thread like this to open up...

"Hi guys, I'm a former nuclear physicist who also spent twelve years at the Mayo Clinic working as a cardiac surgeon. I'm thinking about buying my own truck and becoming an O/O. What do you guys think?"

Experience, experience and more experience.Even after attending a driving school, most companies will put you out with a trainer for 4 to 8 weeks.Even if you own your truck you gotta have verifiable experience.

The veritable experience has been pretty much overlooked..good point. Carriers insurance companies and the carriers themselves ( since many are self insured up to say the first quarter million) are going to faint at the thought of dealing with someone with zero experience going down the road in a 80k lb vehicle. If something bad happened no matter the fault lawyers would have a field day with it. I think the OP is undertaking a huge risk..much bigger than realized. Going into a industry like trucking is hard for experienced drivers who know the rules and what is required to make it fly let alone going in totally blind. Even though you desperately want to create a shortcut into the business I would strongly advise against it. At the least I would go to a community college type school and go from there. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Rambler is 1000% correct! About this time last year, I thought about doing the same thing as the OP. After thinking about it, and talking with a couple of friends who were formerly O/O I concluded that it would be a big mistake to jump into the trucking industry as an O/O.
My advice to the OP is to enroll in a good truck driving school, and go from there.

Thanks folks for valuable wisdom. At this stage I am going to ride with a buddy of mine for a bit just to see if this is something I want to consider.
