No they are not. Did you not read the link?

There are two types of elogs that (currently) follow the eld mandate.
Aobr's (grandfathered in, but still follows the mandate as the mandate specifically allows them)
Eld's, the new version of elogs.

    roshea Thanks this.

An aorbd is NOT a eld.
The eld mandate specifically exempts AORBDs that were in use prior to Dec 18, 2017 from the mandate until Dec 18, 2019.

No, no it's not. Go read the appendix in 395. It specifies exactly what is required to be called an eld.

It's so sad that so many people fail basic reading comprehension

    From FMCSA
The definition of what is an Eld
"An ELD is technology that automatically records a driver’s driving time. This allows easier, more accurate hours-of-service recordkeeping. An ELD monitors a vehicle’s engine to capture data on whether the engine is running, whether the vehicle is moving, miles driven, and duration of engine operation (engine hours). ELD manufacturers must certify that their products meet the technical standards in the ELD rule"
What is an electronic logging device (ELD)?
NOW tell me again how a aobr TODAY doesn't fit that definition....??

Did I say it would be legal at the end of this year......? No I didn't what I DID SAY is that a aobr IS a eld and until December of this year IT IS A LEGAL ELD

And still refusing to read the actual requirements of an AOBR vs. and ELD.
While very similar, there are things an AOBR is allowed that an ELD isn't, and vice versa.
or read part 395 and educate yourself.

    Here is the link:

An AORBD does not meet the specs of an ELD you show listed. So the aorbd manufacturers have not certified them as and eld. They do not have to automatically update change of duty status and though they do have to be connected to the ecm, the recording parameters(speed, distance, etc) is not specified.
Why would the FMCSA have separate specifications listed for aorbd and eld if they were the same.
    With that, I'm outta here.

    roshea Thanks this.
