    Just downloaded the 2011 version.

    Oh what fun!

I chose the downloadable version of Home and Business.(same for 07-08-09-10)

That way, i can acess the program if I'm in bfe and no data connection, I can still work on the issues(deductions)(that's what takes the longest, imo).

Once I get all the expenses added up, it's a simple chore to enter them in the correct sections...and then i'm mostly done.

    soooooo easy

Turbo tax is in the business of selling software. They are fine for hourly wage people with no significant expences. I strongly advise truckers to find a tax preparer. NOT a big company. They know how to throttle up expences without raising flags. The additional money they got me MORE than paid for their fee. Well worth the effort. Sorry I cannot tell you how much or who as it has been years since I had someone else do mine.

ok, so which would be recomended for company drivers?
with all the deductions involved, is there one thats better then
    Suitable for us to use?

what is the difference between the free virsions and paying for one?
will using the free one short us out on things?

I use Turbo Tax Deluxe and have for several years. The program is easy to use and very understandable.

I was told that if i claim single and 1 throughout the year, and then claim married and x amount of dependents while filing taxes that this would increase my tax refund. What version of turbo tax would allow me to do that plus my per diem and deductions? Thanks.

Yes, by claiming "single" and fewer dependents at the beginning of the year more money will be with held from your paycheck. When you file your return you "may" get a larger refund but remember any refund you get will have to be reported on the following years tax return. Most reputable tax advisors will say; do not do this as you are giving Uncle Sam an interest free loan.

I am a company driver, have a home, and have itemized deductions so the deluxe version works for me.

If you are a business owner they have a version for that. I would suggest you look up Turbo Tax and look at the various options available. Simply choose the package that best suits your particular situation.

Each version will cover the basics you have listed but why pay extra for a program that you don't need?

I've Turbo'd for about 8 yrs now, like it. BUT, I also used to do mine long hand on paper, for many years prior. I would suggest getting the book from the Post Office, just so know some of what will be going on.
I am a married, company driver and a home owner, no stocks or bonds or other stuff like that. Deluxe is the version I use.
