This is a copy from a previous thread called 'any Irish truckers out there' so is the admin needs to delete the other one that's fine. I just want to get out of this economic rut. I am a farmer and know that the industry is doing pretty good with export prices. (but I didn't say that!) Some are investing in machines but a lot of really good Italian stuff just doesn't show up around here. I saw a machine that is similar in size to a lawnmower and wanted to get it home to Ireland. We were stumped because they had no export agent set up? That's where I'm coming from and below is my post. Any help from the truckers to clue me in would be very mcuh appreciated.

"Very good posts from the helpful truckers. I am not a trucker but looking to get goods from Italy to Ireland. I was at the Bologna Agri Fair last week and there were so many Italian made machines that just aren't here. Very few of the manufactures' that I talked to had agents in Irleand that would handle transport. Since I'm thinking of ag. machines here I'm wondering in those cattle trucks that bring all the Irish beef to Italy could return with something like ploughing attatchments...what about a tractor? (small one of course!) I'm also curious of which route you guys take to get to Italy and why? Thanks"

Hey mate, I am an Italian driver, i don't reckoon seeing any irish cattle trucks on our roads.99% of the irish trucks i see are isothermal trucks.
Anyway if you want i could write down the names of the irish companies i see while driving here, so you could ask them directly.

That info would be great halfgear! I wonder how they are moving the cattle? There is a great price on the right kind of cattle that goes to export. Maybe they transfer them once into france? I know the EU regulation makes them stop every 8 hours to water the animals. Maybe the truckers unload them once they reach the continent and head home? From what I hear the cattle are mostly going to Northern feedlots. Regardless of the cows...I have been over to Itlay a few times to trade shows-fiere and I see a lot of Italian made products that would certainly sell in Ireland. Now, how to get them here??? Ciao.

    Hi,
It's just an idea, but why don't you become an Irish Importer, and import those agri goods yourself. That way, delivery will be priced into the whole order, and it would then be up to the Italians to deliver the goods to Ireland. Or, you could buy the goods yourself, hire a transit, or luton van, and collect the goods yourself, or get a price from a local courier firm to get them for you. There are quite a few avenues to go down, but I would seriously consider becoming an agent or sole importer of these machines. I am sure that several of these Italian machine manufactures would jump at the chance of a market within Ireland. 'Tractor & Machinary' magazine is a big seller in Ireland. Have a look at the back pages, they sometimes advertise haulage companies that specialise in transporting machinary all over the UK, and Europe.
