The THOR alumina project in Saskatchewan expected to create 7000 jobs just for construction. That’s likely a 5 year or better project
6.8 billion tons all in one ore body(1/3 of worlds alumina )
Trades are where it’s at. Boilermakers, welders, industrial electricians, iron workers and there will be apprentices on these projects
There are numerous massive projects in Canada for tradesmen. My son has cherry-picked his jobs in his trade for years
Choice depends on location, duration and per diem

Trades treated me alright, left home with 200 bucks and a backpack. Almost have my mortgage paid off, no other debt. It has been hard on the body though, probably true of any other labour type job
Related to the alumina story, I think there’s going to be some good deals signed with Hyundai heavy industries to partner up and replace what we are losing with ford and gm, stellantis. Good to be a reliable trading partner with the world. Battery development, car manufacturing, eventually a modernization of shipbuilding for exporting things in bulk. Will see what develops

The Rental Outfit I work for, is pulling equipment out of Ontario/BC and pumping it into AB/SK/MB like no tomorrow! We're currently not short mechanics (cause everyone wants to work here apparently) but they are short HVAC guys, Class 3A drivers who are willing to do fuel and lube and literally anyone willing to go to Ft Mac, 7-7 live in Ft Mac or FIFO positions. Trades all day, every day baby! (just gotta stay off the drugs and booze, and have a clean drivers license).

Yes it can be hard on the body, flex and stretching daily/during the day is huge. Take advantage of your benefits! Massage, Phsyio, Checkups. Buy the best boot's w/insoles. A lot of my family in the trades, do have some physical issues after 30-40 years. But on the flip side, the white collar/office folks are dealing with high blood pressure, obesity, heart issues, liver issues etc etc (sitting, screens and stress is the new smoking). Just try to avoid being the stereotype trades-person, living on coffee, cigarettes, redbull and 7-11 hot case burrito's. I make my lunch every day, and sometimes I only eat meat and fruit. Sounds simple, but it makes a MASSIVE difference.

If I had kids, I would be telling them Industrial HVAC, Industrial/Commercial Electrician, Heavy Duty Mechanic (Off Road **Esp Mobile**).

Go up to The Mac with the right mindset and you'll do well.
