I've only had my drivers license for less than a year, is that a problem?

    I'm 22 and have only had my class C drivers license for less than a year. Am I going to be turned away from schools because of it? Will a company still pay for my CDL training or if I pay for it myself will a company hire me?

    Appreciate any advice on this.

    When do you turn 23?Most companies require 23 to drive for them.Before starting school,I would suggest looking at trucking companies age requirement.Some are 21 but the majority are 23.Yes a school will take you and yes the company will pay for your schooling with strings attached.Now the only way a cpmpany will pay for your schooling is if that school honors that trucking company and you have to stay with that company a full yr before they pay for the school.

    Yea the 23 age thing is crap, I know its insurance reasons but I have almost a year experience and still get turned down by companies that hire right out of school because I'm only 22. Swift won't even hire me and I have more experience than most of their trainers, not like they're on my list of dream jobs :biggrin_25523: but still lol

    Navajo hires at age 21 and has a terminal in Chino. The corporate terminal is Denver, CO. Call or email them and ask which schools they recognize.

    Their website has a section for email questions.

    July is'nt too far,you should wait till then or close to it to go to school.Then you'll have more companies to choose from.

    Pulling a flatbed with CT Transportation, I'll hit the year mark in late April. I'm probably going to stick around another year so when I'm finally 23 I'll have 2 years with one company, which should look pretty good on an application, downside is I'll probably have to take a refresher to get back in the swing of driving a stick :biggrin_25510:
