For those of you currently leasing trucks, would it be reasonable to expect to net (before taxes) at least .42 per mile on a consistent basis each week? I know it'll vary obviously, but before I get into it I want to know if I'm going to be making at least close to what I'm making as a company driver.

.42 when ou are running yes, with home time and the occasional breakdown those weeks would not be as good obviously. With JCT and the right mindset you are also building equity in the truck which you be planning on paying off I would assume.
-
Oh yes, definitely... But as a lease operator, I could stay out 2 or maybe even 3 months at a time if I can take a couple days off wherever I'm sitting, to just get out of the truck and relax.
Yeah, I don't mind taking a small pay cut in order to work towards the goal of paying a truck off, but I've gotten used to taking home $600 - $900 a week on average, I don't want to make a move only to be taking home $400 a week

I understand and agree with you completely capt.

Checked with a recruiter and he said i only need 3 monhs otr. In 2 months i will give jct a try. Im young, no kids, no debt. Want to make as much as i can while buying a truck as well.

Stay focused follow the path you're on, and you can own a truck in no time.

im in the same boat as him. im a company driver, im home everyday with 2 days off a week, I make about 1100 +- weekly. I hate the idea of taking an enormous hit in pay but if the end result is owning my own truck it is worth it.
I just don't want to have to buy a truck I don't like. I asked a guy in another thread about that. what do you do if all they have to pick from is something I don't want ( like a Cascadia ) I hate everything about those trucks. I have to use them at work now. I like a more confined truck personally. always liked kw t660's. -
I answered the other thread. Lol anyways we have some new and newer kenworths, but no one can guarantee what truck would be available at the time you come out of orientation. After 90 days you do have an option to trade up if what you want is on the yard and available.

For the record, 'net' refers to your after tax figure. Gross is pretax. Think fishing to remember the difference.
-
I know, I only referred to it in that manner because drivers typically pay their own taxes, so I consider my "net" to be what I receive on my settlement, and then having to save back for taxes after that.
Technically, it's a misuse of the term "net", but that was my thought process back when I wrote that.
Either way, as much as I like the way JCT looks overall, I'm still very worried about the .90 per mile rate, even if a fuel surcharge is added. Not sure which way I'm going to go to be honest.
