Someone said they are starting water hauling at $20/hr. Well..... that may be generous for TX standards, but not for ND. After a few weeks of training, if you're not making $24 plus benes, you have not looked around enough. All depends on what you want:
    1. Housing, food, utilities paid- Those perks alone are worth three grand a month. But if you don't need them, find a job whose biggest push is the cash.
    2. Health benes- This perk can be worth another two grand a month, if you load up on them.
    3. Company owned housing for sale with company financing- No, these are not FEMA trailers or double-wides. They are real houses. Yeah, as is a concrete foundation. If you think the Bakken will be around long-term, buy a house and forget about renting. Does your job offer this perk?

So, it depends on what you need. Single? Married? Two different set of needs, isn't there? Good luck finding those perks from a TX company. ND oil offers more, because the cold is just downright unfriendly. But who says you have to live here forever? :)

I am done with this childish BS. What ever you want to think I told you before I don't give a #### what you think. How come you worms always know everything?

You know what I think is great is that you people have this idea of how easy life is in the oilfields even though you have never done it, then when a hand that has been in the patch for a while comes in and tells the truth and rains on your parade you get all defensive and tell the old hand he's talking out his ###. Maybe you all should shut up for a bit and listen to good advice instead of reading your own posts and patting yourselves on the bcd all the while saying this must be the way it is. You can think I'm an ### if you want I really could give a ####. I've been in the patch in a truck since I was three years old right now I am twenty eight and run thirty trucks in the patch I don't pay 25 dollars an hour but my guys get paid 24 hours day when they are on location sitting in their sleepers sometimes their are tradeoffs in a good job. All of my guys are happy but if they found something better I wouldn't begrudge them a bit.

The funny thing is that they will be sitting around all day trying to figure out what a worm is. :biggrin_25523:

You kno the reason schlumberger frac crews carry around nets that they put up over location?

To keep the birds from eating all the worms!:biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:

How common is it to find a company with available housing? I'm sitting here counting my pennies, trying to decide if I need to purchase an RV before I head up there in March.

i work 15 hours a shift in your patch and it aint ####. I'll be here till my goals are met and i'm not going to listen to anyone who's full of ####.

gonna go work another 15, see you mugs later lol.

Finally got through this entire thread. :) Took a couple of days. A little background, I came up to Alaska last May to grab some of that salmon gold. I stuck it out but unfortunately didn't make a lot of money. In fact I was on a boat that (half) completely ruined my income for the year. (The other half was me dilly-dallying for too many months... taxi driver = no money, roofer... well in 4 weeks I worked 2 days... = no money). Been on the Bering sea doing "Deadliest Catch" work except it was cod fish not crab... sleep outside in a hammock, been there through the winter.

In a sense it was a good thing that I had a crappy summer because I met someone who told me about Williston. I thought it was great but I wanted to save up a little cash and dig myself out of the hole the boat put me in. So I took all six tests, just finished my prints for the TSA check, hopefully getting my DOT physical back East in the next two weeks while I'm there for Thanksgiving, then CDL school... almost there. Basically looking/trying to get everything done so I can go to Williston late December/early January.

I was wondering a couple of things. Please forgive me if these questions (esp. the first) sound a little dumb but my only experience is the manual and youtube at this point :(.

    • What is the FMCSR? Is this different from the TSA check?
    • Somewhere in this thread a post mentioned 70 hr limit. Answer seems obvious but I ask anyway... Even doing intrastate work you're limited to 70 hrs of service? Eleven hours driving per day limit too?
    • Seen many posts with various day/week rotations. Is it possible to work 6-on/1-off (days/wk) all year? I'd do 13/1 if possible. Twenty-six consecutive 16-hr days on the Bering and 30+ 12's in the cannery... I come to work. I'll probably be going to McDonalds on my days off to work there.

I have more but I'll stop there for now. Thanks for your help.

I don't know about the USA or ND in particular but in Canada there are certain exemptions that pertain to the opil patch. Such as Waiting on a Lease, even though you're getting paid for it and you log it on line 4, it doesn't count towards your working hours for the day.
