    e85 saves no one anything as in reality it has less energy than gasoline. $1.00 a gallon for e85 is really $1.30.

    Not to mention the amount increased ethanol production has jacked corn/food prices up since the government decided to mandate it's use.

    At one time, the net energy from ethanol was a negative. That was a few years back. I don't know what, if any, process improvements have been made.

    I talked to a corn farmer in central IL once. He said pretty much everyone knew that without government subsidy, the ethanol was uneconomical. They were happy for the uptick in corn prices though.

    From what I have read its around 20% more energy gained than put in. Pretty poor return considering it consumes the starch in the corn and leaves the protein. The protein is sold as animal feed.

    Anybody know cost of sand load right now? Still $90/ton or so?
