Hey y'all, I just earned my Class B CDL Permit with Air Brakes and Passenger endorsement and looking to start at Smith & Solomon in a few weeks. I plan to drive nothing more than a bus or straight truck. Really, bus I wanna drive Greyhound and tour the country. But now I'm terrified of the air brakes test and pre-trip inspection test. I been watching videos on both and Strictly Class B Tests but they seem like a lot to remember. What if I forget a step and fail? What if the bus rolls back or something? I can't be a Paratransit forever, this is not the way, at least not for me. Y'all gotta help me.

    Ok...

    First of all...

    Don't be scared.

    STUDY!

Go through the motions, physically, and visualize what you are to do.

Speak each step out loud while you're doing it and visualize yourself doing each step as you say it and move your hands and body the same way you would if you were actually doing the test.

This is called using multiple modalities and building muscle memory.

    You will pass.

As the other posters are telling you...

Do it over and over again until you can do it in your sleep.

    You've got this!

Get the Class-A CDL. Even some straight truck & cargo van companies require Class-A. Don't limit yourself by getting a Class-B.

Go to any truckstop and spend some time watching all the idiocy. Remind yourself that if all those people can get a cdl, then you can too.

    Seriously you’ll be fine.

How can you be scared about pre trip? Think of it like this- you have the worlds biggest cheat sheet right in front of you- the truck!!! Just look at it and point stuff out- take your time and go front to back. It’s easy. You got this!!!
