IMO the best way to test is to submerge it in hot water and pressure it up to whatever the rating is on the rad cap.
W923 and mile marker 27 Thank this. -
Any particular reason for hot water?
-
Sometimes leaks only show up when hot. I haven't tested a lot of heat exchangers but I usually do it with hot water and again with cold to make sure.

I knew a someone several moons ago that built a custom BC1, ceramic pistons etc….. he put a air to air for a after cooler. Kept the pyro down, and would keep up with the kitties back then. Before the electronic era….
W923, Big Road Skateboard and mile marker 27 Thank this. -
If this were not going in a COE or it was my engine, I’d put an N14 intake and charge air cooler on.W923 and Diesel Dave Thank this.

Would definitely be the way to go
Definitely make sure it’s submerged and I would probably test to 20 psi or a little more.
Usually if they leak there’s antifreeze residue on themmile marker 27 Thanks this.
