Not true? For what? An O/O, a small company, or a "mega fleet".

Are you saying that it doesn't matter how much fuel any one entity buys, they all get charged the same price?

No deals require companies to buy from a high price stop.
A driver may buy at a stop with a super high pump price but the discount won’t show on the ticket, the fuel desk doesn’t know how much fleets are paying.
There are ways for a one truck operator to get good prices.

They do, and are obligated, to buy from higher priced fuel stops as per the contract to get an overall discount on fuel across the board. You scratch thier back by buying something from undesirable locations to make the whole company profit look better. You get gouged here, and they will grease your hand over here, if you spend enough money with them.

Can you just cut off TA from fuel because you don't like those prices for a few months and then have them come back to renegotiate prices with you when they realize how much product they lost when you left?

Why would I cut off TA, 20 years on cost plus and they almost always have best price.

I was just thinking of large carriers and how much fuel they buy.

They could have an agreement to buy X amount of fuel for and average price of Y. Then ,TA decides they want more money and it doesn't fly with you so you just completely cut them off.

A few months later TA realizes how much they are losing and call back offering a better discount.

That stuff is disconcerting. The discounts they are getting.

Carriers don’t get a set price on fuel by buying in advance. They go with cost plus or cents per gallon discount,
Say swift had bought six months of fuel 6 weeks ago and now fuel has dropped a dollar a gallon they would still be paying the higher price..
Cost plus is how all the megas do it, the can still negotiate pumping fees.

I get up to a dollar off pump price depending on the location. I check my fuel price list online to let me know where the best prices are. Right now, my price at an undisclosed location in Oregon is $1.42/gal. And I say undisclosed because part of us getting the prices we get is we don't go around telling everyone.

    flood Thanks this.

I get up to a dollar a gallon off depending on location. The location I intend to fuel at next in Oregon my price is $1.42/gal. It's about .90/gal off pump price. I have three 120 gallon tanks on my truck and will top up. I have saved as much as $250/fill by watching my fuel prices.
