Hi everyone.. I'm scheduled for knight DRY VAN orientation in Memphis tn on may 13th.. I have 1.5 months experience.. I was wondering if knight offers regional or dedicated runs for new drivers out of that terminal.. If so, how long will I be out and does the regional runs consist of driving southern states? Would i need to go to the reefer side for this? What are the average miles per week on a regional run? I've seen that they offer 11 western states but nothing about the south.. I live in Arkansas 30 mins from I-40 and I-30 but wanted to know about this cause I can't find info on this anywhere.. If anyone here has done this, please give me some info/advice on it.. Thanks

Been many years but I'm familiar with Knight and the Olive Branch terminal. They have some dedicated runs out of there but a snow ball stands a better chance surviving in hell then a new driver does getting one of those. They will hire you as "regional" but that does not mean much there, for very long. If they have a load on the yard that needs to go Harrisburg, PA and you're in line and no one else "has the hours", you're going to Harrisburg. And once there, you'll have to scratch and fight, and hope and pray to get back to Memphis. Poke around in the Knight forum for better responses and probably round-about answer.

For me, Knight [ended up] was good for a few weeks, then terrible for two weeks. But as far as the larger carriers who hire new guys, they're as good as any of the others but I wasn't a big fan of the Memphis shop and dispatch but being a Memphis driver you may have better results.

thanks for ur answer.. Do u know of any other regional runs besides the western 11? I don't mind running anywhere because my 3rd day out with my trainer I was close to downtown l.a. In TONS of traffic and I hate traffic but if I surviveed that I think I can survive any city lol.. Thanks again

Every carrier has 6 or so different "regions" they hire under, including Knight. Memphis would be better suited to a 'Southeastern' regional fleet, or a "mid-south" fleet. But anywhere you go with the typical mega-carriers, the less you're willing to roam from home, the less money you can expect to gross. Getting into the dedicated lanes and accounts is sometimes hard for newer drivers until they can prove themselves and their reliability and professionalism. Schneider, Roehl, Maverick, are others to consider but there's a whole bunch of others.
