Correct. There may be some guys grandfathered in, but no new contracts for mechanical engines, is my understanding.

Same with paper. I can legally run paper with my truck, but not at Landstar.

You can run a mechanical engine if you can make the ELD work

    BigHossVolvo Thanks this.

Landstar doesn't care how old or ugly the truck is as long as it passes their inspection and can run a ELOG

    2. WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM TRACTOR/TRAILER EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS?
Trucks and trailers that pass a Level One DOT inspection through an approved Landstar inspection facility may be leased on. Tractor must contain a certified sleeper berth and must also be capable of functioning with an Electronic Logging Device (ELD). BCO candidates residing in California must be CARB compliant. Find CARB information at arb.ca.gov/dieseltruck.

Taken from the lease to landstar website FAQ

I'm not saying it can be done. But if it can be Landstar has no problem with the age as long as you stay out of California

    BigHossVolvo Thanks this.
