Never heard that one, my extinguisher is in the side box too. No handle on it, it opens by cable from inside the drivers door. Never had a problem with a DOT inspection, maybe it is a LS rule. They do have some strange ones.

Usually around $50 for the first one. After that LS pays for them as long as you pass. If you fail, you pay for it

Back in the 80's when I built my IH 4300 Glider Kit,my first trip out with it,was to California. Was with Consolidated Freightways then.Got DOT inspected by Ca.,at the west bound bug check at Truckee, this was before they built the permanent scale there.Creeper cop went all over my rig,the only thing he could find wrong was ,I didn't have a "Fire Extinguisher Inside" decal on my side box door. Was pretty proud that's all he could find with my homemade truck.Gave me a fix-it ticket,no fine, but you have to take care of it.Bought the decal at the truckstop, got the ticket signed off at the scales on the way back east.

You have to be really late though. Like really really late. The only time I got charged was when I was over a month late. I'm normally a week or two late depending on my home time.

They created the monster by making you have the truck fixed at the inspection site, or towed. I hear about unscrupulous sites all the time on FB. I only go to one site for inspections, except when I've bought trailers, which only reinforced my perception. I took over a BCO's trailer from LCAPP 5 or so years ago. Brought it to the Carlisle Petro for the prelease. It needed two tires and I had the lcapp p.o. for them. Mechanic tried to fail trailer for the two tires, even though they were on the workorder to replace. I don't need nonsense like that.

Southeast trailer is the only place I go for inspections. They have been good to me.
