Trying to book an oversize load from Oklahoma to Iowa over the weekend. Over 14 feet wide 450 miles and they only want to pay $2k. Yeah I got a laugh out of that. I told what they wanted done properly professionally with no claims give me a call that's going to cost him a lot more.

And they probably took the load from another broker, paying a bunch more, and tried to shop it out to you. Ask me how I know about that...

I told Landstar to remove me. I don't even want them to have an insurance certificate

You might have mentioned you're an O/D guy in your lazy thread. You guys are paid pretty differently from the industry standard. You guys are to truck drivers what I am to freight brokers. The average pay of a freight broker is 30-40k and I make several times that. The average pay for a driver is 40-50k and if you worked as hard as they did you'd make 4-5 times that. You also run a TON of risk and can give it all back more or less instantly if you don't do things perfectly. I broker produce lol.

I've noticed it, too. If they've got a load sitting on the boards for hours, with comments like "I can get you a FAIR rate", it's probably not at a fair rate.

Your landstar agent was probably just starting out, and thought it was a good rate because it paid more than what he'd found his first few weeks bottom feeding on the boards. Additionally, rates are all over the place right now. As with most brokerages, you can generalize based on the rapport of the company, but generalizations don't represent individuals. Gotta find and pull the good brokers out of the garbage fire.

I guess it's better than last month's comment. That was "DON'T ASK FOR A BILLION DOLLARS!11!"

Landstar is no different than any other large carrier or brokerage firm. They got good paying agents with good freight and they got piss poor agents with cheap freight filled with headaches.

I have not pulled oversized in probably a year honestly. This one just happened to be convenient and I like easy money.
