Hazmat comes in MANY different classifications. When Landstar lists a non special load of hazmat they list it as "HAZMAT NON-HIGH RISK or AA&E". I live in NH and haul this stuff out of Mass. This is the ONLY reason I got a Hazmat is to haul for this company because rates suck out of NH/MA but these loads pay about $.75 cents a mile more then the norm.
The types I haul do not require any special insurance, permits or anything else as long as it conforms to packaging guidelines like 1 gallon cans. Here is a list of Hazmat I haul that does not require anything special other than a Hazmat endorsement. It also does not require any training or special insurance.
Paint, lacquer, enamel, stain, shellac, varnish, liquid aluminum, liquid bronze, liquid gold, liquid wood filler, and liquid lacquer base.
There are a whole bunch of other chemicals and products that fall under the same rule.
