What have you guys done in regards to business type stuff. Meaning did you Incorporate form an LLC, Sole Proprietorship or just go 1099?

 

I am not sure what you mean by going 1099. That is not a business structure. It is a means of reporting income to the IRS. If you are an owner operator you will be given a 1099 if you lease to a carrier. I prefer a corporation as a way to run my businesses. It offers some protection when it comes to litigation, but is easily penetrated if you don't set the corporation correctly. There are tax advantages to having a corporation or LLC over a sole proprietorship.

 

Thanks G/MAN, Ya I understand the 1099. I have run into a few O/O that are leased who do nothing but that and was just wondering what the drivers with Landstar are doing.

 

I still run sole prop. I jus use my social. My tax guy said the benefits of a llc or a s-corp will come when i net over 70k in a year and i know thats not happening in 2012 and i gotta wait n see for 13. I have all the insurance to cover me for litigation and have no assests worth anything so a sole prop works for now. Once i net 70k or win powerball i will check into it again.

 

Does any of you use TruckNPro7 from foglinessoftware? Pro's and Cons? Looks to me like it has everything a o/o would need.
