I haven't driven in 12 years and I'm getting back in the industry, starting over in a sense. How's USA Truck these days? I haven't seen much about them, I know I'm in a prime spot for them being in Shreveport, LA. I think they have a regional route that would get me home every weekend. Home time is big for me because I have young kids at home. What is your experience? How's pay? Equipment? Average mileage? Any and all info is appreciated. Trying to make the best decision that I can.

I thought someone bought them a few years ago. Are they back in business again as an independent company?
-
Recently -- the original owners bought the company back from the last corp to buy it (D B Schenker).
I see their rigs a fair amount in the areas I am running -- but I have no clue as to whether they are warm to the idea of hiring a returning driver.
Personally -- I think Marten or KLLM are better choices.

I would agree with you on Marten being a better choice. The advantage for USA would be the home time. And they are paying 62 CPM. Just trying to weigh everything and see what the best fit is. Also, it looks like Marten would force CPAP testing, not thrilled about that.

If you have young kids at home -- have you tried looking at the LTL fleets:
- SAIA
- Old Dominion
- ABF Freight
- Estes
- XPO Logistics
- Southeastern Freight Lines
LTL generally offers great pay, as well.
One or more of those may welcome a returning driver with good prev experience.

I currently don't have any endorsements, although I have been wanting to get the tanker and hazmat. Looks like those companies here want more recent experience than I have. I figure if I can get at least 6 months experience then it change my options drastically around here.navypoppop Thanks this.

What could drastically improve your options would to get your endorsements.....all of them
It's really not that toughLonesome and navypoppop Thank this. -
When I worked for marten, they sent me back to the orientation motel with a small recording device hooked to me and went to bed as usual. I passed just fine and I was 6’2 350 at the time. I’d try marten. They do a lot of intermodal which is helpful for hometime too.

How long ago were you there? Upon talking to the recruiter some more, it sounds like it may not be mandatory and maybe just a screening, I don't know. Either way, I think Marten would be a better option. It's weird the way it is set up though. A regional driver is 18 days out and 3 days home and OTR is home every weekend. Seems like it would be the other way around. They might have a good bit of drop n hook too that would alleviate the long wait times.navypoppop Thanks this.

It’s been about 5 years. Was a really good place then. Checks and benefits good, and well maintained equipment. I left because they took my manual away and gave me an automatic.
