Lawmakers add 6-axle 91k pound weight limit pilot to highway bill

91,000 on 5 axles is nothing. Outlaws been doing that for 65 years. Many with or many without permits. Many of us used a one time permit multiple times. Lol. This just allows you to put on a drop axle and never have to pay for an extra permit.

 

Here in our Communist(California), it will never happen. This will benefit shippers, more for there money.

 

As much as I like my home state of South Dakota, Dusty Johnson is an idiot. South Dakota has made it impossible for anyone to make a decent living close to home unless you own a bunch of different trailers. Can’t make money in state unless you pull sets of big doubles or run 8 axles hauling livestock, then if you have something set up to make money in your home state it’s useless outside state lines.

For “non box” freight a higher weight limit won’t be that much of an issue as a lot of commodities pay by weight. The issues will be the box guys that will be hauling 11k more pounds and doing it for a flat rate because that’s what the shippers expect.

 

I can get to 88 out west with a heavy front axle and a spread. Pretty close to 91 less the weight of the extra axle. I've run a tri-axle for a lot of miles, next trailer is going to be a closable spread. More flexibility for non-domestic standards like Canada and California.

 

Id like to go back to max 45’ trailers and 73,280

 

I'M a no. We already have bad roads. No need to add more weight and yet another axle to try and spread it out. The shippers will try and push this since it could benefit them but the truckers should stay away unless it is farm stuff in my eyes. I like my light loads anyways.

 

Just curious, Why do you want more weight? More weight, more fuel, more wear and tear on your equipment, id rather fight for better rates

 

Maybe they want the extra weight for electric trucks like Tesla and whoever else will make one.
