The name you are leasing under because they hold the authority to operate interstate and hold all of the responsibility for the load.

By the way, you do have a contract with the carrier?

The company may hold the responsiblity for the load, but better check-out some circumstances that have occured in the past between leasser and contractor. Be careful if you are relying soley on your leasser to cover claims.

The authority is for compliance with the FMSCA and to insure that road taxes are paid. Along with the comes a host of insurance requirements. OOIDA told me that in some cases, the carrier with authority did not have enough insurance, or it had expired without the contractor knowing. My insurance covered cargo even though I was leased-on to protect myself in any event.

    Lav-25 Thanks this.
