2.5 years in the biz and the first time I ever made this kind of mistake.

Got a job to pick up 2 polestars from Newark port to Greencastle PA. $570 a little under 250 miles.
Was told Polestar/volvo are pedantic about damages.
Security walked me over to both cars according to bay #.
I inspect the hell out of them and load and deliver without a problem.
    That was 2 weeks ago.
I get an email an hour ago telling me one of the cars is the wrong one. I picked up the wrong VIN #.

Need to go pick up the correct one and return the wrong one to the port before Friday or have them repost it and charge me for the job, max $700. (Would send me the difference if they get someone to run it cheaper, yeah right...)

Frantically tried to find a car heading in the same direction. Can't book anything. Also planned to run with just the swap cars and figured I'd never make it back in time to the port. Would cost me $150ish in tolls, about 200 in fuel and 500 mile round trip.

I sent him the $700 and called it a day.:(

Did you happen to drop those Polestars on Antrim Church Road in Greencastle by any chance?

    24kHotshot Thanks this.

    I hope that's a sarcastic wow.
Anything under 500 miles in the northeast should be paying more. Only reason I took that job is because I had a job from Manheim PA that was paying $850 (200 miles) back to BK,NY.
Took 2 units from NY to Richmond VA Tuesday, 350 miles for $1250.
I try to stay at least at $3 a mile for anything under 500 miles. Between the tolls, fuel price and a slow market anything less is not profitable enough to move.

Itsbrokeagain, clausland and Lite bug Thank this.

You definitely need to check the vin# very carefully when picking up but how did they let you out of the port with vin#s that didn’t match your paper work ?

    gentleroger and 24kHotshot Thank this.

because @24kHotshot made a mistake. People manning the ports rely on the drivers to do their work. In other words they are the mistake most of the time.

Last time I pulled out of the port my paper work vin#s were checked by port personnel against the cars I had on my trailer.
I could not just pick out random cars and just drive a way with them?
