First if all, I am sorry if I am asking tooo many questions. Just trying to gain as much knowledge as possible about this industry.
Now my question is. Let say you have your own cvor and truck and trailer. Would you hire a driver and let him/her Dispatch themself and you pay them a percentage. There would be some conditions as to what they can haul so it doesn't damage your equipement. Where they can run and weight and rate.
What are the pros and cons of this model and why would you or wouldn't you do it?
Letting your driver Dispatch themselves.

Awesome, I'll just run west for you for .80/mile, I keep .60 and the rest you can have to pay for your truck, trailer, yourself, my benifits and s.s etc etc
Sounds like a great idea already! -
Rate is something you decide with the driver and you pay him a percentage

If I didn't have my cdl and my own truck, there is no way I would buy a single truck and put a driver in it. If I did, there would be no money left over for me after paying the driver, insurance, maintenance, etc. So, why do it at all?
And let's say I find a driver that is willing to run for 20 or 25 cents a mile so I can make a few bucks. Well, agreeing to run for that amount proves he/she is about as smart as a flat rock. And I wouldn't let them check the tire pressure. Let alone do any dispatching.TireFire, rank, Dominick253 and 1 other person Thank this. -
So you are looking for a driver that has freight contacts ... because you don't have your own ....

Your company driver will be booking the dumbest loads for the dumbest reasons and making a profit for you will not even enter their mind. Very bad idea.
rank Thanks this. -
I'll deadhead from Washington to Iowa just to pick up a load going to Florida because it was cold in Washington
rank, jdiesel3406, LumbraX and 3 others Thank this. -

Or maybe you could just let him L/P the rig? You'll make money that way; ask the megas!!
No sarcasm intended, just saying.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
you give them a rock bottom number per mile that can book the loads for, say $1.20 and between that rate and $1.35 they get 22%. Between $1.36 and $1.50 they get 25% and $1.51 and $1.70 they get 30% some kinda formula like that that incentitices them to book higher paying freight.
Ougigoug and Dominick253 Thank this.
