Wow. I never thought of that. One of the main reasons I trained was to have someone help with the tarps. (sarcasm) I never had the audacity to try that though. There used to be an old flatbed trainer who would set up a lawn chair and shout directions to his student. At least he was outside with him though.

They tell the trainers now to have the students do everything. Some ive heard take it to that level. I get bored sitting. I'm thinking of dropping training and going back to solo. It's really boring riding shotgun. Really.

You're just saying that because PA caught you soaking up the AC while your student was doing all the work:biggrin_25520:

Had my first experience with negotiated Detention and Shag Pay yesterday. Van Wyk is a small company so these negotiations are actually directly with the Vice President and they were more than fair. I ended up out an extra day and they asked me what I thought was fair. Since it only took me two hours to get home from where I was babysitting the unloading of two other trailers, I said $200. He countered with $225. Fair to me!

That was a really good original post. Roehl was my first driving only job when I was 21 and 22 back in 2002 and 2003. I thought it was a really good place to start out but I knew after a few months otr wasn't my thing. Living on the East Coast, I primarily ran loads that ended between Philly and Boston and they were pretty good about taking care of me when I wanted an extra day home or whatever.

I knew otr wasn't for me so I applied to all the ltl carriers and ended up at CCX which is now Con-way Freight. Been here for 9 years now but still think pretty highly of Roehl. It's a good place to start but like the first poster said don't feel like you're stuck.
