Crossed into Canada with a load heading to Mississauga. Only an hour and a half away, and I have 2 hours left on my US clock.

Swapped to Canadian HOS on my Qualcomm, and was immediately told I was out of hours.

I'm guessing it's that -12:57 that's doing it, but I have no idea what that field is. A quick google search has not been informative.

What's the scoop here, folks? How long do I have to sit to reset that clock?

Have you had 24 consecutive hours off within the last 14 days?

Which means you get to sit for at least 24 hours. Or switch back to us rules and pray you dont get inspected.

We don't have recap here, you have to take 24hrs off every 14 day mandatory or/ after accumulating 70hrs of on-duty time.

    We do have recap here.

You are correct re: 24 hours off within the last 14 days. The 24 off after 70 hours on-duty only applies to Cycle 2.

    So, to recap (;)):

    Cycle 1: 70/7
    • 24 hours off in preceding 14 days
    Cycle 2: 120/14
    • 24 hours off in preceding 14 days OR after 70 hours on-duty, whichever occurs first.

Yes you are correct with the 24hr is only for the 120/14 cycle after 70hrs. Sorry I wasn't to clear on what I saying this about...

    BUT

I don't believe this to be a true recap, because in Canada we have to have at least 24hrs off after 14 days regardless of remaining hours on your 70. Whereas in the US HOS they don't ever have to take a 24hr reset if they run the recap correctly. They can just keep running and only take a 10hrs off everyday for weeks on end.

For me all this stuff doesn't matter anymore. I am glad I don't need to worry about HOS as much as I did when OTR. I am home everyday, my company caps us off at 60hrs/week (labour/union rules, so we would never reach the 70hrs/7days) and we always get 2 days off unless we work a 6th day overtime in which case we still get more then our required hour 36hr cycle reset (we are on the 7day cycle). My HOS these days are a lot more simple to follow haha...

I ran recap a fairly often (both sides of the border). The 24 off is only another 14 over the regular 10 (or 16 over the consecutive 8), so I would just find things to do; laundry if I was on the road, go shopping, see a movie, etc. Only if I didn't have time to do a reset and worked best if there is a short day, which happened quite often.

    Sounds good!

Our resets are 36 hours vs your 34 hours. Could that be it?
