I just got my CDL in the mail biggrin_255. I don't drive a truck yet, but I'm currently a taxi cab driver. My question is, do I need to be keeping a log book because it's a driving job?

No, no need to log until you're in a large CMV (commercial motor vehicle) and subject to FMCSA rules
volvodriver01, Montgomery and aiwiron Thank this. -
What does your local regulations say? A car for a taxi does not need a log book unless it is covered under the Federal regulations.
Montgomery Thanks this. -

Now, if you were employed driving a truck and on your off hours you decided to make some extra cash deiving a cab, you would have to log those hours as "On Duty not driving". You would not list them as driving because a taxi is not covered by FMCSA. It is working tho, so you would have to log the work.
Montgomery and volvodriver01 Thank this. -
Taxi is nothing like driving a trk.. do u do it in a cmv? If not then no..

get the little green book and read it. lots of good info in there.
a "four wheeler" does need to log if it carries Haz-Mat or passengers over a certain amount, not sure how many people. -
A taxi is considered a commercial motor vehicle because it hauls passengers for hire. If you are not running over 100 nautical miles from where you work, you will not need to log it.
Montgomery Thanks this.
