    Hi I will be starting for a new company Monday they have E-logs and I was on E-logs with my previous company. Now the new company wants me to bring one of their trucks bobtail about 400km I'm. Not setup for their E-logs yet I'm only going to start orientation. Should I go buy a paper log and fill my last 14 days and do that day on paper also ?

    Strictly spoeaking, non-ELDs (aka: ERD, EOBR, AOBR, etc.) are not legal in Canada. Yes, drivers use them. Yes, drivers have been inspected without violation. No, they do not meet the regulations--unless they are connected to the truck's ECM per 83(e)--as noted below. If you do use one you should have a printer as you can be required to print as noted in 83(b). Otherwise, just stick to paper until you're in the system.

    Use of Electronic Recording Devices

    83 A driver may use an electronic recording device for recording their duty status if

    (e) the device automatically records when it is disconnected and reconnected and keeps a record of the time and date of these occurrences;

    http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2005-313/page-5.html#h-42

    electronic recording device means an electric, electronic or telematic device that is installed in a commercial vehicle and is capable of accurately recording, in accordance with section 83, each period of duty status, in whole or in part.
