I can be social, but it's very rare that I bump into someone that I relate to. Strangely, in my crappy yard spotter job, I wind up ############ with another person that works here all the time about stuff like Sci-Fi, Horror, Cult-Film, or different authors. They also have a lot of alternative religious views I enjoy discussing. It might be that we both have incomplete College education?
Again this is rare though so I generally keep to myself. I would like to try moving to a larger Metro area though and maybe it would be easier to meet people I relate to or have similar interests.
One time I went job hunting with my 2 year degree and met cool people at a Maker Space or Hacker Space. This is basically a open workshop building where people hang out just to be creative and learn on their own. I thought this was so cool and enjoyed talking to these people. Sadly my efforts to get a Tech job failed and I wound up coming back to sit in a truck cab.
I was not particularly social as an OTR driver and I didn't set at the Driver's counter in the Truck Stop restaurants. I always have this weird feeling I'm the wrong industry and missing my 'calling' by a lot, but I gotta pay bills and my debts so I'm stuck for now.Fuelinmyveins, Maj. Do tell,...maybe i'm in the right spot after all. -
Was just in the office talking to my driver manager. I sometimes ponder whether I could thrive in an office environment like that and unfortunately my experience has shown that I can't do it.
I suck at multi-tasking and constant background chatter with other people talking or on the phone messes with my concentration. I think what suits me is to have a specific job delegated to me and I go off to get it done.
I wish I could be doing something more technical like a field repairman or Cell Tower Technician.
As for being social, I really would prefer a situation where I meet people through hobbies and not work.Maj. Jackhole and TripleSix Thank this. -
On the other hand, I ride. If you ride and I ride, we can be friends and I will buy the first round at the watering hole (I have a 2 drink limit on the horse tho). If you can ride responsibly, and drink responsibly and avoid ever being lewd to a woman that's not yours, I will give you the respect of a Man and will trust you completely.VIDEODROME and Maj. Jackhole Thank this. -
I also think many people I've seen in warehouses can be immature or in a few cases, inclined to 'horseplay' if they're bored. Being involved with people like that can lead to something really stupid happening.
The messed up thing is many such people are not explicitly anybody's enemy, but want to pull others into their vortex of stupid behavior.Fuelinmyveins and Maj. Jackhole Thank this. -
