As a side note, i believe the Freightliner Classic XL had either the longest hood or the longest BBC in the industry, EVER.

    Can anyone confirm or refute?

In early 2000 I drove for a small OTR company for a couple months while laid off. From what I can remember the hood seemed longer than a early 90’s model 379 I had owned years earlier. They were a joy to back into tight docks up east with a 53 and they really didn’t feel like they held the road good like a Pete does. They looked good for a freightshaker, but they were still alot of plastic.

It really isn't about the length of the hood. It's about overall appearance of the entire truck. I have seen some really nice standard hood and B model kenworths. As well as the regular classic.

Yes the classic XL was the longest of the hoods.

If you really wanted a real long hood, back late 70's KW had long hood with V8 cat. I am thinking about 10 or 12 inches longer then the other extended hoods. I have also seen some extended hood Petes where the cab was set back on the frame and the difference was filled back in with additonal cowl making the orginal hood seem a lot longer. SHARP rides.

I dont think those longer kw or Pete hoods were a factory option. I have seen a 3408 in a standard hood 359. My Dads truck is a 80 model ext hood 359 with a 3408.

Some guys have a fascination with hood length. There are a couple of trucks with V-12 CATS put in by the owner that are stretched like that too

Im pretty sure CL Werner has a Shaker with a V16 Detroit and a Pete with a V12Cat, both stretched hoods.

I drive a 1991 379. I know technology has changed considerably over the years, but the cab width is still the same. I chimed in only to tell you that the cab is small (in all directions) and theres about 14 inches between the seats to get into the sleeper. Im 5'11'' and 214lbs. Just an FYI for you.
