Things have been slow with my company last few weeks, and I've been thinking about the next stage in my life anyways. I'm not sure what I want to do yet, if I want to even stay in trucking, but figured I'd put some feelers out.
About me: I have about 8 years experience in the last 10. Got my cdl in 2013. Teamed at Schneider for a month or 2, we realized it was too much. Went solo at transport America for 1.5 years doing dry van otr. Been at my current company since 2017 doing reefer otr. Had an accident in 2019, and one in January of this year. No tickets, not just for the accidents, but ever. Have tanker and double/triples endorsement. Currently have a Florida license, live near Orlando. Well, my dad lives there. My mom lives up in Northern Illinois, rather do hometime there.
What I'm looking for: like to make at least $100k/year. Made about $90k last year so trying not to take a cut. Prefer more hometime, not necessarily local but maybe regionalish. Would really like a dedicated run, but idk how likely that is. Otr would be ok if mainly longhaul. No where I won't run, just don't care for east coast. Willing to get hazmat. Not really interested in flatbed, unless dedicated. Tanker maybe.
Looking at options

Eagle Transport runs day cabs and sleepers. I don't think they run to Illinois though.

For those 2 accidents -- who was at fault, for each?
The answer there will help determine the open-door availability for you.
And yes...general freight volumes are indeed down of late...thus--you'll need to choose your next employer carefully...to stay busy.

This company doesn't do Northeast or states on the East Coast. Maybe Florida though since they haul lots of produce & other refrigerated freight.
Headquartered in Michigan.
Trucks governed at 75 mph. You'll get through Illinois a lot. -
Yeah that's why I would prefer something more local/regional/dedicated, if I'm sitting waiting for loads I'd rather be home. -

75 mph headed back West out of there is ok though.‘Olhand Thanks this. -
For the pay you want, and being in the northern Illinois area for hometime, I'd try Nussbaum Transportation. Since they're based in Illinois, you could probably get good hometime with them. I saw on the website that they help drivers get their CDL. If they're doing that, I'm inclined to believe they'll take you with the one accident.
Chinatown Thanks this.
