At one point I confused lease operating and leasing on with a company myself, so I won't jump too hard, but there is a difference.

An owner operator hauling under the authority of another company is leasing to that company.

A lease operator is leasing from the company they haul from.

There are more degrees of complexity than just black and white, but the bottom line is that there are multiple ways to legitimately use the word leasing to describe drivers and their trucks, and they are sometimes VERY different.
