    Hi all .
Want to move from one state to another 2000+ mi apart ,
and need your knowledgeable advise .
There is a straight truck (33k gvwr) which was not moving for a while .
when asked about it , i was pleasantly surprised to find it's from my destination state.
Truck was not road ready , few shops could not figure the problem .
I'm DIYer and fix cars and like challenges .
So I got hold of the owner and made a deal , "I fix the truck , you move my stuff"
Long story short , truck is almost ready to hit the road ,
but owner is not really ready to use it in everyday business
and he also like everybody else who deals with me became kind of a friend.
Trying to save as much money as possible , for him to .
What paperwork would he need to make single trip through the states
with my stuff in it ?
Transfer plates ( heard it can be used for empty truck only ) ? log book ?
Have to fully register ?bill of lading ? IFTA ? Insurance ? ...
    thanks

    Hop in and drive !
If stopped - just cough and say that secretary of state is closed to issue plates :)

To be legal, if it's registered as a CMV (vs personal use like RV) the very minimum is he would need to hire you. At the very least do the drug testing, background check, etc. Otherwise no insurance company will actually be in force.
He will need to register, have proper insurance, etc. Basically there isn't really a shortcut. Some places do "day trip" insurance and tags, but that's specifically to get it back to the home yard.

Now if you don't want to do all that, might as well take a plate off another truck and use it running without any requirements met.

Everything is closed. You would be lucky to get it anywhere.

In arkansas we drive cars without tags home all the time after buying cash, just have the bill of sale in hand.

Owner himself would drive the truck .There should be something like transfer plates .

I suspect you might be better off in the long and short run to move your stuff with PackRat or Pods or any other portable storage company. I really would not trust a truck that you have just got running to do a 2000 mile trip, or 4000 miles if you have to take it back. You might be surprised at the fuel cost and paperwork involved .

    thanks
nothing , almost nothing is closed as far as roads ,and cannot be closed , trucks have to be on the road otherwise that would be real disaster
