A big chunk of your problem -- your experience level simply does not command a lot of pay (yet).
All the cool, good-paying CDL gigs will want you to have:
- tanker, hazmat...& (likely) doubles/triples endorsements; some also require a TWIC
- At least a year of experience (with a clean record); some will want 2 years exp; still others...will want 3 years exp
Stay put -- & pay your dues as a rookie; the better carriers will appreciate you more, if you change jobs/employers less.Banker, Toomanybikes, WrJoe and 1 other person Thank this. -

Some of us don’t mind a bit of physical exercise. To the OP, all the new people on here lately looking for new jobs and not being able to hardly find one, I’d stay at TMC for at least a year before I even thought about doing anything else.

How much money do you want to Gross ( before deductions) each week?

Saying there’s no pride in flatbedding is more of a reflection on the person and not the job. It’s a choice to be lazy and have ripped tarps. It’s a choice to be lazy and complain about physical work.

If you like the physical work of flatbed and have an interest in carhaul I highly recommend you try it. I got in to hauling cars at 45 years old for the last 15 years of my 38 year career and it was my best years. Carhaul does have bottom feeder companies as well so do your research before you make the move. The good companies will train you, put you in a hotel every night, get you home midweek or definitely every weekend and pay you $140,000 or so once you become skilled.(could take up to a year to be skilled and some people will never become skilled) The bottom feeder companies will pay you less than $100,000 and expect you to sleep in a coffin bunk and a carhauler sleeper sucks. Where you live also plays a big role in to how much money you can make because freight rates vary depending on geographic location and lanes you could run. You will very likely need a minimum of one year clean driving class A experience.Last edited: Jul 30, 2026

Exactly as there is Pride in every form of work and lack of Pride in the very same fields. The choice of some to set one’s self apart from the actions of the pack is often where Pride can be found.

It's a choice to make more money in tanker and be home every night.
Also.
Don't see as many ripped tarps.
See alot of flapping tarps though.OldeSkool Thanks this.
