Just getting started in the industry and am finishing school up in a couple weeks and have had several companies contact me already. Was wondering if anyone could give me some inside scoop on them so I can avoid ending up in a crappy situation. Or if anyone knows a better company that hires fresh out of school I'd appreciate any input. I'm living in Bloomdale ohio which is about 40 minutes south of Toledo. The companies that have comtacted me are KLLM, H.O.W. Holding, Maverick, Falcon, Roehl, Valley (Ashland oh), US Express. Again any input would be much appreciated.

Out of that list... Maverick.
but real answer is up to you. it isn't like buying a watch, what works for some is bad match for another... A new driver will have a different perspective from one with a year and one with 10, etc
i picked maverick because they pay well and don't run really hard, and they got Reefer,Flats and some specialized stuff like glass.
read as much as you can, but remember someone that writes and does not go into details is mad and there is likely to be more to the story... and of course they did not add that. Happy hunting -
So from my research here's what I've gathered. Most seem to agree maverick is an ok place to start. ROEHL reviews turn up a lot of drivers saying they don't get enough miles to make any money. Valley has a lot of guys saying they like you to fudge your logs...which blows cause they are close to my house. US X seems decent if you don't mind being gone a lot. KLLM has called three times already, the lease option seems like suicide but I have,no interest in that. Company drivers for em turns up a lot of bad reviews. Falcon also doesn't sound too bad depending on who you talk to, guess they use older equipment? H.O. Holding seems hit or miss. So all in all I'm still not sure which way to go. Seems like every company has someone saying something bad about em.( the ones who have called me). The ideal situation would be home on weekends getting about 500 bucks a week. Probably dreaming too big with that coming fresh out of school.

Have you checked to see if you qualify for Crete. They may have what you're looking for. Very active in Ohio.

Cut pieces of paper with the company name, put them in a hat, and pick. All starter company's are too much alike.

I just started with maverick as my first trucking job, went solo in January. I am in the glass division and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this company and the work. You will hear from a lot of people at maverick who have been around working for other companies how maverick is the best they have worked for. The company and the pay have far exceeded my expectations for being fresh out of school. I can be home every two weeks, sometimes I am, sometimes I choose to stay out five, either way I make good money, more if I stay out. Gimme your name and I will hook you up with my recruiter, she told it absolutely straight with no promises other than what it is. She will give you all the details so you can get an idea what the company is about.

I just got off the phone, apparently cannot get my recruiter to call because Hannah was already assigned to you and left a message yesterday. But if you have any questions I will answer as best as I can.
