    Try to take what you get here and make a good decision. The first carrier can make or break you. If you could come up with a way to pay for CDL training, West Side Transport could hire you. After the OTR training period with West Side, they have a weekly pay commitment of $900 regardless of miles for new drivers.

    I could probably get financing for school but I just don't know how that works and I just don't want an added bill to pay right off the bat..

    Find a school, go talk to them and find out what the finance options are. You may have a 6 month grace period before payments start.

    West Side transport hires from there, I think. They have a terminal in Columbus.

    @Hateful,

    Don’t rule out flatbed. You are in the rust belt, and there are plenty of flatbed loads to run. My company hires in Ohio but you have to have a year experience, we haul van and a little bit flatbed. You are also in some freight lanes for companies like Carter Express, Star Transportation, etc and other companies that run automotive. Home regularly and good pay and benefits, dedicated gigs.
    This forum is the most complete information for your questions.
