My Dads million mile safety belt buckle, from Trans Con ( Trash Can ) Lol. Circa mid 80s. Now, I’ve wore it longer than He did. 108D7717-E39A-4B1D-AFC9-90D5D52E2481.jpeg

I still see their old trailers sitting around. How did they get that name, cheap freight?

Junkie equipment. They bought a bunch of new Mack’s, When they did that, my Dad said they’re probably going out soon. Sure enough, about a year later, He went in one night, and gate was padlocked. All The nicknames, someone should post a list. A few come to mind. Holland- Shoe, still used. Foreway - Fore -Skin, CF- Cornflake, Central- Red Racer, The list goes on, I’m too young to know them all. I’m sure Someone does. There’s the right way, the wrong way and the Rodeway. They definitely earned that saying.

When I see Trans con trailers I like the design, something different and they stand out even when faded.

CF ran worn out stuff as well, but those COE Freightliners were very memorable from my childhood traveling days. They were so spare that they were fascinating.

I think they were from L.A. They opened a Terminal in Detroit in early 80s after deregulation. My Dad had been Driving Local for Chrysler for 10 yrs. Laid off, ran out of unemployment, went out and got a Job, same day. .33 cpm, as a casual, then 31 cpm when hired as a 70 % er. And full parity after 18 months. They ran him ragged, We used to take the phone off the hook, he’d blame on the teenagers in the house, Lol. Bug I recall $1000 a week. 1980, a lot of $$$$. Better than the $13 hr at Chrysler. So when they called him back, he quit. No one knew at the time. They closed Detroit, he transferred to Chicago. Lived there till they shut the doors, around 1989. Those were great jobs. All he did was drive. Went in, Truck all fuel up, trailers hooked warmed up, ready to go. 3000+ miles every week. Holland, according to him, back then, was the bottom of the Teamster Jobs, as they peddled freight, as Road Drivers sometimes, in different cities, and did some combo work. That was out of the question, for him. Lol

I was digging for trailer photos and found this article...
    The Demise Of Transcon

Same guy also killed PIE, wrecked the Central States pension fund, and tried to buy Landstar. One crook did a lot of damage.
