Anybody using Lucas 5th Wheel and Slider Lube? Comes in a nice easy to use bottle.

I am curious as to others use of this product, as I am not so happy with this stuff at the moment. Spent yesterday power washing, and spraying OD paint to the frame rails. Got the 5th wheel cleaned up all nice and clean. When I was all done I applied the Lucas 5th wheel lube to the plate, looked pretty good when I was done, but its really runny.

This morning went out to start working on the truck again, and noticed quite a bit of it has literally dripped off. My previously clean frame is now coated in this stuff GRRRRRRRRR:biggrin_25513:

Yeah the one thing I don't like about it is that it is too runny. It's a good
    product just not thick enough.

I rather use grease in the tubes for my fifth wheel. It's good and thick and
    will not drip off.

I've never used it for that, just to get the slides lubed up on a truck without a manual dump valve.

Using the stuff, it is ok, but i havent found the "perfect" stuff for fifth wheels. Like has been said, runny in the summer, cant get it out of the bottle in the winter if it is cold. A good tacky grease with moly works good also. If anyone has the perfect fifth wheel goo, i would like to hear about it....

Screw this, I am taking it off. The high was under 60F here today. The crap has dripped all over my dang frame rails, and has flung off and splattered all over the back of the tractor going down the #### road.

How much of the stuff do you put on? Sounds like your using motor oil? I never had it run off like that.....

Maybe I should have stirred it up before application? I suppose it could have separated out after sitting on a shelf for a year...

I didn't go nuts, I drew the usual squiggly lines on the rear half of the plate. Maybe an inch of separation between each line. This stuff is more runny than 30 weight motor oil sitting in the sun.

The stuff does thin out when hot, but it shouldnt be that thin. Good warm day i would compare it to the thinkness of honey.
Send Lucas a bit*h letter. Maybe they will give you a credit towards another bottle?

I had some it was the same way. You had to put it on and hurry up and hook up a trailer or it all ran off. Switched back to grease. Seems the same as other Lucas products, all hype.

The Lucas is to be used in conjunction with your grease on the fifth wheel, not in lieu of it. Clean the excess grease off the fifth wheel, apply new grease filling in the crevasses on the fifth wheel, run a couple days to let the grease get worked in then apply Lucas over the grease. It will make a big difference in ride. You will notice it being smoother, especially in turns. It also provides long term performance in keeping your alignment straight and wear and tear on suspension and steering parts.

Just can't use it on its own.
