I was a lumper years ago at Fleming foods in Garland,Tx. They r now closed down. Job hunting not going well. Was hoping someone could tell me where i could go in Dallas or Houston to unload trucks. i don't know what warehouses allow outside lumpers. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Most of the warehouses now use an "in-house" lumper service. So the actual lumper is employed by the service and pays taxes, and everything is on the up and up. I'm sure there is some payoffs going on, but the old days system is no more. Warehouses don't want outsiders on their property.
mcurl76 Thanks this. -
The IRS has clamped down a bunch on cash only lumpers.

I think the lumper business needs to go away all together. Just a stupid thing. Make the driver go through the hassle of finding how much its gonna cost to unload a trailer that he doesnt own, unload freight that the wareshouse he's delivering to ordered. Then have to go call dispatch, register a comcheck go back in give the check to the lumper and wait.......... Just plain dumb. If that warehouse ordered that freight then they should just pay the lumper service themselves or have it set up in the paperwork so the drivers dont have to deal with all that stuff.

I have delivered loads in recent years that have agreements with my company/broker to lump it off and direct bill the company/broker. So, it does happen. I've even had dispatch give me a check before I left the yard to give to the lumper at the consignee.

I'd like to see a trucker refuse to pay the lumper, the lumper service refuse to unload the trailer and the customer that ordered the product and trying to screw the driver/company with the lumper racket lose a load because no one can/will take it off the trailer. But in reality, they shipper and consignee will find some way to blame the trucker.
