I WAS A LINEHAUL DRIVER FOR 4 YEARS AND DROVE ALOT OF MILES WITHOUT COMPLAINTS AND HAD NO ACCIDENTS. COMPANY MAN 100%!! I WAS HAPPY AND SECURE, OR SO I THOUGHT. I HEARD ABOUT 1000 + TERMINAL WIDE LINEHAUL DRIVERS WERE LAID OFF THIS PAST WEEK, INCLUDING ME. IT WAS A TERRIBLE THE WAY THEY ANNOUNCED IT. ONE BY ONE THE DRIVERS RETURNED TO THEIR MAIN TERMINAL AND WERE TOLD THEY WERE LAID OFF IMMEDIATELY, WITHOUT WARNING OR NOTICE. HOWEVER, THEIR POLICY IS YOU HAVE TO GIVE A 2 WEEK NOTICE BEFORE RESIGNING. IT SHOULD BE THE SAME BOTH WAYS!

Sorry to hear that., Whom did you work for ?
If you are looking for a good job check out some of my threads I got the ax also from WALMART PRIVATE FLEET. So I know what you are going through.

That sucks the way they did that is that even legal? I thought they should give you a severnce pkg or something, Paid scholling to train, anything , did they at least let you cash out your vacation/ personal time etc to help you out some.?

Let me know if you need any good job advise I assume you were making the 65-70k range give or take.

I was also and landed a good job making roughly the same.

My thread you might want to check out is

FROM WALMART PRIVATE FLEET TO SUPERIOR CARRIERS LTD

It is in the FAVORITE COMPANIES section on the board..

    :yes2557:

They must have been a s#$%y outfit to do you that way..:biggrin_25516::biggrin_25510::biggrin_25511:

I am going out on a limb here.

Since it is posted on the DAC report for OLD DOMINION, I think maybe that is who he drove for.

But in reality, lay offs are not terminations. Employment is at will.

The company was old dominion. I apologize for not stating that, but i thought it was understood being on the od site. I am thinking of applying at walmart as a company driver or buying a truck, being owner operator and apply with landstar or crst. Just don't know!!
Most companies don't seem to want to pay anything.

I was also a line haul driver for Old Dominion in Michigan. I was laid off on Feb 18 2009. My terminal manager is gutless and can't deal with confrontation, so he calls me on my phone as I drive home from work. I am still un employed due to the very poor economic conditions here in Michigan.
