One of the big problems we have out west (esp. in the summer) is exploding recapped tires. I have seen too many 4-wheelers hit by them, and in some cases 'blown off the road' by the concusion of the explosion! I met a trucker who had his passenger window blown out by the concussion---was NOT hit by rubber/steel---as he was passing another truck. The hwys in AZ and other desert states are riddled with rubber, gators, and tire scraps.
I heard somewhere on the radio that the trucking industry saves around 2 Billion/year in savings by not running virgin tires on tractor drives and trailers.
Now, if ALL co.s have to play by the SAME rules and not use recaps, then the cost increase would be the same to ALL. That cost, like fuel increases, would be passed on to the customers, and eventually US! I have front pan damage on my not to old car due to running over (in the rain at night) a rolled-up gator across the road. Irregardless of the cost increase that is passed on, the safety issue alone should require virgin tires---not recaps!! I have had only 1 virgin tire blow vs. 10+ recaps in 7 years of driving......I rest my case.

Before you make a post like that you should be able to back it up with facts becouse i have been driving for 12 years and the only tires that i had blowout like you say was virgin rubber.and for the last 6 years or so I have been running recaps and suprisingly I havent had one blowout on me yet, maybe the exception not the rule.IMO

Come to the west in the summer....the roads are non-stop riddled with rubber!! My backup is my experience! Also, have seen at least 6 autos hit by blown tires...usually happens in traffic.

In the last 400,000 miles the only tires I had blow were retreads. I won't use recaps for OTR, they can't handle the heat and long miles for me.

I lived in abilene,tx for 7 years i know all about the rubber on the highways but also knew a person that was working for the highway dept.and they did a study on that very thing and they found out it was vergin, not recap.7 out of 10 tires they picked-up.

The retread goober on Open Road Cafe on Sirius says the same thing. I'm not saying I'm believing him.

I have run Michellin, Bridgestone, Goodyear virgins. Knight says that a Bridgestone recapped 770 casing is 80% as good as a new tire---I havnt seen in my experience!!

didn't say you had to,but just think if all your company puts on is recaps what do you think is going to blow.......duh.....a recap:laughing8: :laughing8: most of the tires that you see are mostly from driver neglect, not checking pressure.I check mine every day like clock work, company drivers don't ,they don't have to pay for them.

I agree on that statement, but out west, our problem in the summer is that tires aired up somewhere up north (say 60 deg) and then driven down to say Yuma, will go from 100 psi to 120-130 psi in 118 deg temps. I've seen trlrs that are MT blow tires while parked in a yard at those temps. If can keep a good monitor on, I agree the failure rates are much better. Still never saw a virgin tire blow at 130 psi!!
