    Hello,
I'm the Operations Supervisor to a Mall. Occasionally there will be a trucker deciding to sleep on our lot. Usually the drivers pick a distant spot and everything is fine.
Recently I had a trucker decide to sleep in an a very active part of my lot and within spitting distance of an Applebees and Bob Evans. I could see liquids and the ground outside his cab and he decided to throw a pop bottle out with chew as well. I was not thrilled.
I spoke to the driver and asked him to clean up and if he decided to stop here again he needed to park on the other side of the mall where there is less traffic.
My real problem is I decided to check his placards when I noticed his tanker.
    3295. Flammable Liquids
I'm thinking that I probably shouldn't allow hazardous materials into a public area like a mall.
It is private property after all.
    Any thoughts?
    Am I over reacting?

    FearTheCorn and TheLoadOut Thank this.

No, you met a knuckle dragger. In the 90s trucks could overnight at walmart or shopping centers. But with a lack of professionism subsiding, messy people ruined it. And after awhile, we all had a bad image

In my opinion he overstayed his welcome with trashing up your parking lot, and you would have been in the right to make him leave as he is ruining it for everyone else. Secondly, flammable liquid being that close to other businesses is not good idea in my opinion. You didn't over react, infact you would not have over reacted if you told him to leave.

As far as the placards go, 3295 is only a class 3 flammable, so not anything too terribly dangerous. HOWEVER, if he does this again, USDOT regulations require him to leave all bills of lading ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT when he is not in the cab. Also, if ANY alcohol was consumed, he would not be allowed to drive for a minimum of 12 hours, so if you really, really want to stick-it to him, these are things you could use...

Best way to deal with him is take pictures, call his company (the DOT# on the side will get you a phone # if the company search alone does not), get his truck #, and report him to his company...

I have to commend you on your patience.
    Sorry this happened.
Driver sounded low class. We're not all like that, but idiots like him have hurt us all reputation wise.

You are completely entitled to keep garbage off your property. Not only this drivers garbage, but the garbage driver himself.

All Flammable Liquids are class 3. Flammable liquids can be no other class then Class 3, and I, for one, would have sent the guy packing as soon as I saw where he chose to park. UN3295 is for Flammable Hydrocarbons, N.O.S.
