The easiest way to lessen stress is to chill out and lower your expectations,by this I mean set your pace at something realistic that can repeated and like Moosetek said always allow time to decompress

And lower your income expectation also. That will relieve stress

Sounds like a “Frenchman”. No thanks if that means being just mediocre or average. I’ll leave that goal to you guys.

No it means not trying to be super trucker every day because mistakes happen if you’re always trying to make an unrealistic goal such as always trying to get 700 miles in a 65 governed truck

He sounds like a local guy working 12-14 hours a day with 30 minute to 1 hour commute. Been there done that. At times i had to treat my house like a sleeper berth. Walk in the door grab a shower and face plant the pillows. It sucks, but you make a crap ton of cash:)

Imo otr is better in that respect. You literally have 10 hours off a day minimum. Normally more. Your bed is 3 foot behind you not an hour away from the job. Both aspects have positives and negitives.

Otr doesn’t give as much time at home as most would like. Local can limit “me” time while at home. At least otr guys go home and have 2-5days where they don’t even have to think about that truck. Local guys get home and immediately thinking about what time i want to go to bed and what time i have to wake up. Get home at 4, in bed by 7, up by 12 out the door by 1. And do it all over again the next day.

Local can take the fun out of trucking if you’re not careful. It can become a 9-5 job, just not with the 9-5 schedule.

Unfortunately for me trying to optimize efficiency bleeds over into personal matters. I start to expect everyone to interact with me like they are my NASCAR pit crew. I switched from one stable long-term job to OTR to break out of some of my bad attitudes and change my perspective.

    Mike2633 and Oldironfan Thank this.
