Hello Everyone:
Just this afternoon, a recruiter from Marten Transport reached out to me, while offering me a local, home daily position, where I would be delivering no touch freight to several Kroger grocery stores within my surrounding area.
He stated that I would be paid $1800 weekly; but then again, recruiters have a tendency to inflate the rate of pay. For now, I'm just taking what they say with a grain of salt.
My question to anyone in the forum is in regards to what I should expect and I would be happy to hear from anyone who has worked for Marten Transport. For example, do they pay overtime, is the equipment in decent shape, does the management team micromanage etc.
On a personal note, I would much prefer to run tankers/ cryogenics; but nothing seems to be coming up in my area as of late. I'm wondering if I should take this job, or if I should just hold out for a tanker position instead.

Martin or Marten? Big difference. Doesn't mjd drive for Marten? Marten has always been top tier and you'll be hard pressed to find any better. Bunch of companies named Martin, but only one Marten. Been around as long as I have, I wouldn't dawdle on that one.
mjd4277 Thanks this. -
^^^ I think @mjd4277 does drive for Marten. Maybe he can answer your questions.

Yes,I’m still at Marten.
In fact, last month was my work anniversary…
10 years!!
And this year the company is celebrating 80 years of operations.
I’ve seen quite a few changes with the company.
Some good. Others, not so much.
I’ve been OTR with the company since I started, even before then, I was OTR.
Maybe I should do a 10 year review!!Magoo1968, Knucklehead, Vic Firth and 5 others Thank this. -
I was recently offered a local, home daily position that involves delivering to the local Kroger's in my area. The recruiter mention that starting pay would be $1800 per week with about 80% no touch freight. The remaining 20% would utilize a pallet jack. Does that sound any of that sound accurate?
Also, what would you say are the bad things about Marten, as well as the good? -
Just sent a PM to you.
What terminal were you planning to run out of?Lonesome Thanks this. -
I believe it's Oconomowoc, Wisconsin
Lonesome Thanks this. -
Closest terminal in that region is the company headquarters in Mondovi. Usually in that neck of the woods we do Walmart dedicated loads out of the Tomah,Wisconsin distribution center.

Would $1800 per week be the gross, or the net?
201 Thanks this. -
"O5"( Oconomowoc) you say? My old stompin' grounds. My brother lives in Sullivan. I drove for Brownberry( now Bimbo
) back in the late 90s. I think all those company drivers are gone now. I sold my '72 Peterbilt to a guy in Mondovi. Randy Marten was a drivers boss, and knew what it took to keep drivers. I don't think I ever heard anyone complain about Randy Marten and I come from a time where truck owners (80s/90s) were the biggest crooks. Marten pay was always good. I knew several O/Os that ran for Marten. That $1800 is probably gross, and maybe on the inflated side, but as long as cheese is going west and strawberries coming back, you'll always have a job. I remember when Marten had cabover 362 Petes, one of the few companies that thought enough of their drivers to give them the best. Werner too had long nose Petes, that some of the drivers ended up buying..
BTW, I see Bimbo is looking for a transport driver, starting $28.50/hr., which is a heck of a lot more than I made, and appears to still be a union job. I didn't think they existed anymore. That was all regional runs, I'd check that out!Last edited: May 15, 2026
