I'm a student and really like the looks of Maverick except for one thing. I'm a bit leary about getting my first experience with an automatic transmission. What if a year or two down the road I wanted to move to another carrier? My only experience with a standard shift (what most use) would be at driving school.
Any others dealt with this or is it a non issue?

You've asked the same question numerous times,
on different forums......
You do know the definition of insanity,
right ??

Shifting a truck is over rated! What makes you a professional driver is your ability to safely move freight from one place to another without endangering anything or anyone around you.
I am sure that you would be able to pick up the shifting if you were to get into a truck that was a manual.
The most important thing in choosing a company is how they treat you, how they pay, what is the condition of the equipment that you use and do they do what they say they will do.
In my opinion, Maverick does very well in all of these. They are not perfect, but what company is.grusco, sewerman, nsxftw and 1 other person Thank this. -

How things change in such a short time! When I asked earlier about starting with a company which uses automatics I was coming to the issue with a wrong attitude. Here's the mistake I was making; like so many CDL students I was thinking you find a first job just about anywhere so you can find the job you really want a year later with the experience of driving for one year. Wrong!
Why not find a company you like where you can not only learn how to drive, secure, etc. but you can also grow into the company and stay put!? The more I've researched through this forum, read books written by truckers and talked to some drivers the more I realize that 1) I want to go flatbed rather than van and 2) Maverick is a great company!
When I briefly spoke via phone with a Mav recruiter he advised that I submit an application when I'm very near the end of my CDL school training which will be in mid May. I'm looking forward to that day. I want to thank those of you who take the time to respond to my questions here as I figure out how best to fit into this profession.sewerman Thanks this. -
If you are professional and dont mind working then you'll love Maverick.
