I got myself in a pickle. I'm sitting here under load not even believing what I've done. I just left home this afternoon to complete a run from last Friday and I grabbed a stack of my mail on the way out the door (which me and the wife keep up with pretty well, but she missed this one). I don't have late bills but the amount of office work and mail as a new O/O is staggering. I remember a few months realizing my medical card would expire in August. I totally forgot since I've been worrying about everything else trying to get rolling.

Anyway, this notice says I need to get recertified and send in within 10 days of expiration, which is this coming Friday, or my CDL gets CANCELLED! It's in all caps in the letter just like that. I've got a load scheduled tomorrow that will take me until Wednesday with little free time. I'm hoping I can get by some walk-in clinic along the way. Looks like I can scan the documents to the DOT but I don't know if it will fix itself in time.

Has anyone else done this and gotten by under the wire? Does it really take 10 days? If my CDL gets cancelled what do I have to go through to get it back, fees and tests again? I certainly hope not.

    Any advice appreciated.

I'm in Iowa and every state may be different but, my medcard expired and I got a letter letting me know my CDL was invalid. I just got my medcard up to date and went to the nearest driver's license station and they took a copy and just like that my CDL was good again

If you're sitting under a load you could maybe call o o i d a (18004445791) maybe they could tell you of a nearby Clinic, maybe call a taxi and have them pick you up and take you there. And then send proof of your medical card through email. This is just a suggestion.

Thanks, I have Googled around and I don't think finding a clinic will be a problem, just hoping they can update my paperwork quicker than the 10 days stated in the letter. I might give that idea a try. Thanks

In MI you just have to upload a new certificate online and you are good again
    Oxbow Thanks this.

The update is the next day. You can not go past the expire date. But wherever you go for the DOT. They will send it to your state that day. O/0 you have a calendar in your phone let’s use it.

I seem to have lost my new med card. But I have the hard copie. And it's in my Driver license computer system.
If not renewed your license will be down graded after 10 days to regular non cdl. So do not delay.

It takes maybe two hours to renew it. I did mine a couple of weeks ago. In Texas you can scan a copy of it (I took pictures of it with my phone) and email it to the DMV.

It took about ten days to show as updated in their system. I think as long as you renew it and send it to them before the expiration you are good even if it doesn’t update that quickly.

Whatever you do don’t let it expire. The notice I received was very clear if I let mine expire I had to retake all tests to get my CDL back.

You have no choice but to get out of that truck and get a DOT medical asap.

A work around would be to visit your home state DMV and swear out a tier two document temporarily allowing you to hold a CDL. YOU will NOT be able to touch another load under that period. Dot. end. When you get the new DOT medical and all of that submitted then go back and swear out a Tier one document allowing you full Interstate and intrastate commerce.

All medical cards are tied to CDL and they will ABSOLUTELY become invalid the one minute past midnight on the judgement day and invalid means invalid. You have no license at all. Therefore you will stand to be arrested among other problems. Even driving a personal car you own, it's still invalid. You have no license.

Your priority right now in life is to renew that DOT medical. Nothing about getting loads or delivery of loads in the time you have left. Forget that. Drop it. Go home and take care of your DOT medical now. Even if you have to park that truck and fly home.

I am pretty sure when you get settled down and continue to have a valid medical and a valid CDL, you will never forget this again.
