Fasting is not having eaten for 12 hours, and it's stabbing your finger. I used to hit the yard and go to medical the next AM before eating anything and never had a problem. I had to do this every 90 days to get a new med card.

Yes, the DPT test is urine. I was diagnosed Diabetic and let them know going in. I didn't want them to come back at me later saying I tried to hide it or something.

called stevens clinic today took forever to get through i talked to the nurse i askd her what all do they check for diabetes she told me the doc has her check every thing i then ask her does he do a a1c test she said whats that?i then ask to talk to the doc she said he was busy. i then told her i needed to know before going to dallas to make sure i wouldent get sent home and that i had a appointment the17th with my doc to make sure i was with in their guidlines she just said i dont no what a dumb b!{&#.

They WILL check your blood sugar and A1C.
-
If they stick your finger, you need to have a reading < 130. I never had them do an A1C on me. They did have me sign a release so they could get copies of relevant medical records from my doctor. Oh, and I wouldn't say that to her face, she might hurt you. Or the other 5-8 guys inthere to see her at the time might.

newbebob, don't sweat it, sounds like you have it under control, which is what they are looking for. Don't ask, don't tell. They will do what they do. If they do ask, be honest. Just in case do not eat breakfast the day of the medical exam. Don't be an idiot like me and down a glass of OJ just before. I had to go back and retest the next day. But as I said, I told them I was diabetic. That's why they tested.
Your A1C is an average of the last 6 months, but they don't do that test there, they may ask your doctor to provide them the results of that, but as long as you have a 80-95 fasting stick test, no worries.
I think the best thing helping you out is losing the weight. If you are going to training in Dallas at Stevens this time of year, you will lose some more. I swear I lost 10 lbs just going through the school in May.
My doctor told me I was going to gain weight driving a truck, but I actually lost 30 lbs while I was on the road. Way more exercise than I got sitting at a desk.
You will find that the nurse is a real nice lady, just keep in mind she is a nurse, not the doctor, and she basically does all the "grunt" work there. If they make you get a new card every 3 months, you will be seeing her when you go in. She will stick your finger and maybe check your bp and send you on your way.
She can be a bit feisty.
Keep this in mind also, Stevens is in the business of putting butts in the seats. As long as you pass the drug screen and don't do anything stupid, they WILL get you through school. I had one guy in my class who had to take his driving test 5 times to get his license, plus he shattered a drive shaft all over the hill during 45 backing practice, and he still got the job. -
they did do an a1c on me in may so be prepared they may do one.
