Microsoft spikes dirty Santa bot

This is a carry over from the days of Internet Relay Chat (IRC). What it does is pick out key words in a sentence (like nouns and verbs) and then spits out what it thinks would be a relevant response. Its purely scripted and automated by whoever wrote the script. M$ probably just imported somebody else's script into the program and turned it on without checking through the list of replies, hence oral sex comment was sent out. I have not seen this M$ santa script myself but I'd be willing to bet that's what it was doing.

Recently I saw one of these scripts adapted to a webpage and the script was acting like Jesus/God (blasphemers!) and it would spit out similar responses based on the scripts in its database. Very stupid really but there are simple folk who don't understand and think its really smart. Originally these scripts started out as a simple IF/THEN statement in programming code meaning - "IF" the user types a sentence that has the word Hello in it "THEN" reply Hello there User! (get it? IF/THEN) Its just grown to the point that it has a lot more IF/THEN declarations than it used to and what cracks me up is I've heard some people refer to it as an AI (Artificial Intelligence) which its far from. Its just a script some bored programmer spent too much time on. Still I bet M$ gets in some hot water for that oral sex comment.
