Well my 1st student had an accident Saturday in that snowstorm in IL. Bout 20 miles North of Bloomington on 55 running empty. Went around 1 of those curves up there and the wind and ice just swung him around in a split second.
You new guys starting out, if you are empty be very very very cautious. Weight gives you a lot more room for error than an empty box. Be safe everyone.Attached Files:

Omg yikes!!! Is he ok?

I stayed put even though I was offered a load, no sense in risking my truck in that garbage. This thing costs more than a house payment and I need it to survive.

For whatever small thing it's worth, I'll be thinking about him. I was in an accident too. I truly believe that the only reason I didn't get fired is these threads I started. I'm nobody special, and there are plenty of truckers more experienced than me. But, my threads brought Millis drivers. So I think I got a pass. I don't see any other way that would've happened.

Awe man, hate to read this. It happens this time of year. Coming up 61 N of Stl today, wind gusting 30, me mt. Spotty ice and blowing snow made my trailer slide around a bit. When that happens I use an old moto-cross adage, “when in doubt, gas it”. Pull that puppy back straight.

First day was awesome. Jamie is cool guy, very nice. Paperwork and drug screen. Couple videos and touched on some HOS and logbook stuff.
Went to cracker barrel for lunch, pretty good food. My roommate didn't show up so I'm alone for now. 5 out of 6 students and two guys are local so they go home. So 3 at the hotel and we all got our own room for now. I just hope I can stay in my own room, I snore pretty loud and don't want to disturb anyones sleep. I'm going to get snore strips before I go out with a trainer. We went to Walmart from hotel and bought some dinner stuff and now just relaxing.Farmer54 and Steelersjunkie Thank this. -
Checking in to say hello. First time on this thread. Got my acceptance today, I will be attending MTI in Eden in April. Wish I could start a lot sooner but that was the first open spot that they had. I look forward to getting back out there. It's true what they say, once you get that diesel in your veins, you can never get rid of it! I have done TONS of research on Millis, and I have been very hard pressed to find anything negative anywhere. I have 12 years of previous experience but due to personal reasons, I came off of the road for about 9 years. But the bug bit me and I just feel the need to get back out there. See y'all out there very soon!

When running in snow, as odd as it sounds, keep your defroster off. Keep the heat on the floor. This trick only works if you start out with a cold windshield though. Hope it helps.
