Hey everyone. I just finished my CDL school at a community college earlier this month. I've sent out a lot of applications and so far US Xpress and Millis Transfer have my attention. While currently I'm leaning to Millis I'm not sure because I've been reading some things on here about millis but they seem to be a little old. Also there are some things I'm confused by with millis. Please see my questions below:

    1. I am not understanding the pay schedule with Millis regarding the per diem. Has anyone worked there that can explain it?

    2. With Millis or US Xpress do you have to pay for your own room while you're training?

    3. Does anyone know the home time of US Xpress when you're OTR?

    4. Who pays better? Millis offered me OTR and Regional while US Xpress offered me only OTR.

    5. Millis told me that I need another DOT physical(since its over 90 days) even though I currently have one for 2 years and I got it back in July. Is this common for some carriers?

    6. Does anyone know the training locations of US Xpress? I currently live in north Florida.

    7. What's striking me as odd with Millis is that it seems thar they are viewing me as a person with no CDL. they were saying that they're training is around 3 months. 1 month in school and around 2 months on the road with a trainer. Has anyone have to go through this?

    8. After the 30 days with US Xpress do you have do you have to do more training?

These are questions better suited for the company itself. The only thing I can say is that you won't have to pay for your hotel room out of pocket. Now if you leave a company before 90 days, usually companies will keep the cost of the motel out of your final settlement. Per diem is just the meal fraction of your cents per mile. If you get paid 60 cpm, probably 10 cpm is per diem. You still get the whole 60 cpm, just the 10 cpm moreso helps the company from a tax standpoint.

Millis usually won't hire a no-experienced driver unless they go thur Millis cdl school.
I think Millis is misinterpreting your application.
This is from the website for new hires:
6 Months Minimum of OTR Experience
    ~
Go with US Xpress and be done with it.

Thanks!!! I just spoke with the recruiter with Millis and yes they pay for the first week and then they reimburse you $30/night for the rest of the one month training. Afterwards you're on the road for 6 to 8 weeks with a trainer.

Thanks Chinatown!!! That's what I'm leaning towards if my recruiter can get back to me. I had asked as well about the training and also if I stay in a hotel would I have to pay.

To my knowledge, Knight is the only company that doesn't provide meals & lodging.
I'll be surprised if US Xpress doesn't provide those.

That's good to know. If my recruiter doesn't text me back on Driver pulse then I will give her a call.
