Yes, because Christmas presents are essential to life.

Sure, it was a ####ty thing for the company to do but it sounds like a lot of the employees just lived day-to-day, failing to set aside money for emergencies.

I worked with a bunch of those types at GM (Delphi). They lived like rock stars on those union wages... McMansions... Corvettes... boats...

They teased me relentlessly for driving my 14 year old car to work.

Meanwhile, when the #### hit the fan, most of them had to file bankruptcy. Not me though--I owned my property free and clear... no mortgage... no car loan and money in the bank.

Its not about Christmas presents. Think of it like this,

Swift closed its doors today. Without warning. Nobody got their last paycheck.

    (Next day)

New company just started today, called swit. The owers used to own swift, way back (yesterday) they decided to aquire all of swifts old equipment at sub cost value....

I know that. What I'm saying is, whoever wrote the article makes it sound like, because the people didn't get their last check, they were unable to shop for Christmas presents. They emphasized that fact. They equated the two as if they were on equal standing--mortgage and Christmas presents.

It pisses me off to no end when people will do stupid #### like going to get a title loan on their car, just so their kids will get some stupid made-in-China crap for Christmas.

Regardless of what the ####ty company did, not getting your last paycheck should not be a reason that you cannot pay your mortgage or shop for Christmas presents.

People lost their jobs, it's not my business how they lived. Regardless, they no longer have a place to earn wages and they weren't paid what they were owed. There's something inherently wrong with that.

On that we agree, the article could have stayed with facts, and recognize that this is poor if not illegal business practice, and should be focused on that above the precived plight of past employees..

Furthermore, I always did the best I could to give my kids a good Christmas. There's nothing like the magic of Christmas morning to a child. Seeing them understand the true meaning of the holiday as they get older is priceless. It's a lifetime learning experience, one they never forget.

It was a plan to get rid of the Union workers and in my opinion it was illegal. LME is now Logistics Made Easy.
